LA POTERIE

The very gracious and generous Mrs. Charles greeted us warmly as we two tired, wet, bedraggled, cranky people rolled into the farm courtyard.  She showed us the barn where we could stow our bikes out of the rain, and then hustled us into her spotless and spacious accommodations.

La Poterie offers very clean, spacious and comfortable rooms for a reasonable price.  A large salon, with a well appointed kitchen, television and large dining table are provided for guests.  We dragged our bags and ourselves into our comfy room and immediately jumped into the shower to get warm and clean.  It had been a long day on the road—83 kilometers!

Once we were clean and warm and dry again we began to feel better.  We got out our bottle of wine and sat at the table marking our day’s accomplishments on the map.  Mrs. Charles came in to say she admired our bike system and could she show them to her husband.  We had a nice chat, partly in French and partly in English, and showed M. and Mme. Charles photos of how the bikes pack up, etc.  They were very interested, so we gave them BikeFriday card and also one of our cards, and suggested they check out our website.

After our wine and a picnic dinner (we were just too tired to ride into town to a restaurant) we watched the weather on TV and hit the sack.  We also snagged a Chambre d’hotes guide for the Loire Valley—a great aid for us to find our lodgings during the trip.

The next morning, after a sound sleep, we got to know our hostess more as we enjoyed our petit dejeuner.  We found our hostess to be very cordial and interesting, her chamber d’hote was very clean, comfortable and offered many nice extras, and we recommend a stay here to anyone who is traveling near Orleans.
