THE GANG’S ALL HERE

May 6-7

Friday was airport day, and Don and Dave went to the airport to pick up Pauline and Jerry and Roger and Susan, while Cheryl and I stayed at the apartment to launder sheets and towels and clean up after ourselves.

Dave got to visit with everyone for about 45 minutes between the time they arrived and the boarding of his flight back to the US.  Then Don programmed Babette to take a scenic route to Acheres.

In the meanwhile Cheryl and I scrubbed and vacuumed and had the apartment spic and span.  When Don called to say everyone had arrived and they were en route to Acheres Cheryl and I took the metro to the Gare de Lyon to catch the RER to Gironville where Don would pick us up after settling the group into their rooms at the house.

We just missed the 1:41 train, so Cheryl and I had lots of time to visit and chat while we waited for the 2:41 train.  It was pretty easy to buy the ticket and figure out which track to go to and we caught the train, no problem.  The ride was comfortable and we didn’t stop talking the whole way.  Don was there to pick us up and we traveled the short distance to Acheres and greeted our travel-spacey family.

Cheryl and I went into La Chapelle la Reine to do some grocery shopping and stocked up on things for breakfast and dinner.

Saturday we talked about the various proposed excursions to Paris and Versailles, and visited and played games.  The weather was drizzly and cool and Don got the heater going and lit a cozy fire.

In the afternoon we took a short drive to Melun to check on a cyber café, and while we were there we saw a local fete, with fancy small boats, and boat jousting and racing events.  I stopped at the market to buy a cutting board and we then went down to the river where we strolled among the locals, soaking in the celebratory atmosphere.

The plan for tomorrow, Mother’s Day, is to go out on an excursion.  When we went to bed the plan was for Versailles, but today, Sunday morning, there is talk of Fountainebleau.  So, we shall see.
